Read the latest from Wise Acres...

Wise Acres is now closed.

We are seeking a new owner and looking at restructuring, in hopes of continuing what we’ve begun. We will know more by the end of April. If you have a serious interest in participating, experience, or information that would be useful, please contact me via email: missy@wiseacresmarket.com. Thank you for your support!

Our Market

People need simple, natural, and nutrient-dense food.

Sadly, much of what we consume shouldn’t really be called “food,” much less eaten. It’s bad stuff. And the good stuff—the stuff that nourishes the body instead of harming it—can be difficult to find. Many local people travel great distances to reach a store offering good food options. Our choices here are limited. We’re trying to fix that.

People need community, and a healthy community supports its own.

There are farmers in our area raising crops and livestock by sustainable methods, trying new and old ways to be both good stewards of the land and responsible providers to those who eat their products. But, there are few places where they can sell those products to their neighbors.

We’re trying to fix that, too.

Wise Acres Market offers to the SE Indiana community:

  • 40+ bulk foods in bins that let you decide how much you buy
  • Wheat-free & gluten-free products
  • Amish cheeses including fresh grass-fed and organic cow cheese and goat cheeses
  • Cleaning, health, and beauty aids with natural ingredients that you don’t have to be afraid to use
  • A café with a delicious, good-for-you selection
  • A coffee counter with locally roasted joe (including flavorful espresso creations)
  • A place where area growers and craftspeople can market their products
  • Free Wi-Fi
  • And much, much more . . .

Work Here

At Wise Acres Market & Cafe we have some pretty ambitious goals, and we are looking for just the right people to help us meet them. In short, we want Wise Acres to be an asset, a resource, and a blessing to our customers and the community. We want to go the extra mile to show our customers and neighbors kindness, and we want to serve them—great and small—with distinction. We want them to know that they are genuinely valued and that they are always welcome. We want to learn and remember their names and help them improve their lives. Therefore, we need people who will take up these goals and become an integral part of our team—people who will help us find ways to reach these goals and improve on them. We need people who are flexible, who love to learn, serve others, communicate, work with the team, and work hard. Does this sound like you?

Qualified applicants will answer ‘yes’ to the following statements:

  • If hired, I will look for ways to go above and beyond the status quo in serving customers, so that each person who comes through the door will be glad that they did, even if I am the only person they interact with.
  • If hired, I will arrive on time, in uniform, and happily work hard to share the responsibilities needed to make Wise Acres succeed, whether by serving food in the cafe, cashiering in the market, doing dishes, stocking shelves, cleaning the toilets, helping a customer take product to their car, or mopping the floors.
  • If hired, I will look for ways to make my interaction with customers and other employees among the highlights of their day. I will employ patience, kindness, and compassion to that end.
  • Wise Acres Market & Cafe does not discriminate on the basis of age, sex, race, religion, national origin or disability, however I understand that employees are expected to serve their customers and the community gladly, with distinction and sincerity, and that doing so is a condition of employment.

If you have been able to say ‘yes’ to every point above, then please you can click here to download the application. Or you may contact us and request an application and we’ll email you one. Please fill it out and bring it in; we’d like to meet you in person. We look forward to getting to know you!

Sincerely,

Missy Vaterlaus, Owner, Wise Acres Market & Cafe
